When opening and starting a small business it is important to have strategies and ideas that no one around could think of doing, but it is also very important to have a close relationship with the community in order to be successful. It was seen in this article that businesses who are successful have close relationships with the community and are very involved. As seen in the article, “study showed that the interaction effect of an entrepreneur's service to the community and reciprocated by community support of the business was the single most significant determinant of business success among many variables and respondent characteristics,” (Kilkenny, Nalbarte, & Besser, 1999).  However, these businesses are not planning on expanding and that is the catch. The small businesses that rely on the community have a hard time growing out of the local area. They become very dependent on the hometown and will not venture out because they know they already have everything they need in that one area. Therefore, if someone is wanting to own a small business and not looking to expand, getting a close relationship with their community is the best way to go to be successful. This will be a great resource to use for my research project because this is one opinion on how to run a successful business. I can use the different experiments to show how community involvement affects the strength of a business.

When opening a new small business it may be difficult to bring customer in.To be successful, you need to be close with your community. How you become close is by supporting and reaching out. This article talks about how a small business had to keep up with their social responsibility in the community in order to keep their business going. This source is helpful because it shows a study on different small business and their success rates based a characteristics. The businesses have a social responsibility which is commitment and support for their communities. If the business helps out and supports the community, then their image will enhance and increase the likelihood of customers buying from them. “In the business demographics category, the correlations show that older businesses and those with more employees are significantly more likely to be committed to and provide support and leadership to the community,” (Besser, 1999).  This source is credible because it comes from a reliable reference site that is accessible from the media center list. It is also credible because it comes from the journal of small business management and they conducted a large group of business that were diverse to get accurate results. I will use some of the results in my research paper to give evidence to back up my claims. I will also support the evidence by including quotes from the research to make it more credible. I can use the results that showed the businesses being more successful when they kept up with their social responsibility with their community.

Having a strong relationship with your community is very important when trying to own a successful business. Therefore, to create those bonds it take each employee to participate. This article talks about how the business can create bonds with non profits in their community.  It is also very important to get every employee helping out with the community in some type of way. The article gives six ways employees can consider to help create a bond with nonprofits that the company supports in the community. By making sure the employees have the bond, then the business can stay connected with their community. “Single days of volunteer service are exciting, impactful, and inspiring. Painting a school, building a playground, or reading with children are all wonderful ways for companies to support work/life balance and give back to the communities in which their employees work and live,” ("How to Turn Giving"). It does not take much for an employee to go out one day and help in some way to give back to the community. This source is credible because it comes from a database off of the media center list for research. It is also recent so it gives updated information on the topic. I will use the information from this article to talk about ways the company can create a relationship with their community. I will also talk about how it takes all of the employees to create strong bond. There are different ways employees can create bonds between nonprofits in their community. Therefore, I will talk about different ways employees can create that bond and the different options the business can give to its employees.
